The Royal Wedding

Just a couple of pictures of Kate Middleton in the stunning ivory and Satin Alexander McQueen dress, designed by Sarah Burton. The dress which consisted of a lace applique bodie with white satin gazar arches and pleats and a 2.7m train was made with individual flowers, which were hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tull to create the beautiful design. The lace is said to incoporate the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. She wore a a diamond Cartier Halo lent to her by the Queen and a veil made of soft, ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand embroidered flowers and simple pear-shaped diamond earrings and Alexander McQueen shoes.

The future Queen wore her hair in her signature style of loose, soft, tussled waves apparently because she wanted Prince William to recognise her when she came into the church. It was style by James Pryce of the Richard Ward Salon in London. She decided against a makeup artist and did her makeup herself after taking lessons with expert Arabella Preston, the makeup rumoured to be Bobbi Brown and went to a beautician for a pre wedding pamper session which included a luxury soak, exfoliation and deep tissue massage. The beautician who also did her nails used a custom blend of Bourjois number 28 Rose Lounge and Essie 423 Allure. She carried a simple bouquet of myrtle, lily-of-the-valley, sweet William and hyacinth.

Prince William whispered "you look beautiful" when she arrived at altar after a 3 minute walk up the aisle

The design in detail:
The lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework, based at Hampton Court Palace. The lace design was hand-engineered (appliquéd) using the Carrickmacross lace-making technique, which originated in Ireland in the 1820s. Individual flowers have been hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create a unique and organic design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. Hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace has been used throughout the bodice and skirt, and has been used for the underskirt trim. With laces coming from different sources, much care was taken to ensure that each flower was the same colour. The whole process was overseen and put together by hand by Ms Burton and her team.
The dress is made with ivory and white satin gazar. The skirt echoes an opening flower, with white satin gazar arches and pleats. The train measures two metres 70 centimetres. The ivory satin bodice, which is narrowed at the waist and padded at the hips, draws on the Victorian tradition of corsetry and is a hallmark of Alexander McQueen’s designs. The back is finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons fastened by Rouleau loops. The underskirt is made of silk tulle trimmed with Cluny lace.
The Fabrics
French Chantilly lace was combined with English Cluny lace to be hand-worked in the Irish Carrickmacross needlework tradition. All other fabrics used in the creation of the dress were sourced from and supplied by British companies. The choice of fabrics followed extensive research by Sarah Burton and her team.
Veil and Jewellery
The veil is made of layers of soft, ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers, which was embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework. The veil is held in place by a Cartier ‘halo’ tiara, lent to Miss Middleton by The Queen. The ‘halo’ tiara was made by Cartier in 1936 and was purchased by the Duke of York (later King George VI) for his Duchess (later Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother) three weeks before he succeeded his brother as King. The tiara was presented to Princess Elizabeth (now the Queen) by her mother on the occasion of her 18th birthday.
The bride’s earrings, by Robinson Pelham, are diamond-set stylised oak leaves with a pear shaped diamond set drop and a pavé set diamond acorn suspended in the centre. Inspiration for the design comes from the Middleton family’s new coat of arms, which includes acorns and oak leaves. The earrings were made to echo the tiara and were a personal gift to the bride from her parents for her wedding day.
Wedding Shoes
The wedding shoes have made hand-made by the team at Alexander McQueen and are made of ivory duchesse satin with lace hand-embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework.

Wedding Fever Urban Decay Style

Following on my couple of Wedding Themed posts working our way up to THE most important wedding post of the week, Today's Royal Wedding deets, I have this little bridal themed beaut for you. So, Urban Decay have decided to release a Limited Edition Set, aimed specifically at Brides and what they should need on their wedding day for long lasting, crease free, immaculate makeup.

They have timed their release of this new set to coincide with the American release of the new movie Bridemaids, a chick flick centred around a wedding, bridesmaids and wedding drama. Sounds like a perfect summer movie to me. Anyway this supercute set contains

Razor Sharp Ultra-Definition Finishing Powder (Travel Size) — Designed for stars of film and flat screens, our high-tech translucent powder keeps you camera ready! Skin appears flawless with a stunning, soft-focus effect, even under bright and unforgiving light.
Eyeshadow Primer Potion (Full Size) —Primer Potion gives you more vibrant CREASE-FREE shadow for 24+ hours!

Supercurl Curling Mascara (Travel Size) — Perfectly sculpted lashes get boost, separation and tons of pretty curl from our Supercurl Curling Mascara, and they’ll last all day!

Lip Junkie Lip Gloss in Midnight Cowboy (Travel Size) — A sheer nude gloss. Can be worn alone or atop your favorite lipstick.
All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray (Travel Size) — it actually lowers the temperature of your makeup to hold foundation, eyeshadow, blush and concealer in place.

Marshmallow Sparkling Lickable Body Powder (Travel Size) —A pretty veil of shimmer that looks, smells and TASTES like its namesake. Dust onto arms, legs, and dècolletè... and let someone else kiss it away.

So I love the idea of this set as it is all the little extras that might not be in your own makeup kit such as the primer, the finishing powder and the makeup setting spray, however if you are relying on this set alone you will be left short. Where's the eyeshadow, where's the foundation/tinted moisturiser and where's the eyeliner?! I suppose this may be a marketing ploy in the sense of you buying this kit you may as well just have a few additional sales and pick up the other necessities while you're at it... Anyway I don't know whether this kit will be released in Ireland but if it is I probably will be picking it up, depending on the price of course. It's being released in America at $42 so i'll have to see how much the price gets hiked at the counters here in Dublin.

What do you think? Like the look or marketing ploy? What are your must haves for longlasting makeup?

                Steal Her Style Part 2

As I said in the last Steal Her Style post I was going to do this feature in two seperate posts, one for Casual Mens Wear and one for Red Carpet/Black Tie/Night Out Mens Wear. So here is part 2.
I chose Janelle Monae for a few simple reasons, firstly she rocks Menswear as her signature style. She doesn't do casual, it's red carpet, uber stylish always. Secondly it is such a high fashion look that I can only do it justice by using someone that is Style through and through.

So here's my picks to replicate her style

Asos Tailored Contrast Lapel Cropped Tux Blazer
                E65.60
                Asos Fitted Shirt E14.43
Asos Linen Tab Detail Wide Leg Trouser E39.36

Alternatively if you don't want to go all out you could team the jacket and shirt with your staple black skinnies or a little more dressy with a pair of leather look leggings. You can also substitute the plain white shirt with something more you, like a white silk blouse or vest.
The outfit above Blazer, Shirt and Trousers can be all tied together nicely with the following neck tie.

Asos Chiffon Bow Neck Tie E10.50
Asos MARKY Mono Leather Lace Up Brogue E45.92

To rock it just like Janelle team the outfit with a pair of large stud earrings in a black, gold or white, just like is shown in the pictures above. The House of Harlow 1960 14ct Yellow Gold Plated Sunburst Button Earrings are fab.

                House of Harlow 1960 @ Asos E47.23

So what do you think, are you Man enough to rock this style? Do ya'll like Janelle Monae's personal style?

                Wedding Fever

We all have weddings on the brain at the moment, i think. The Royal Wedding is happening on Friday so i'm going to be having a couple of little updates this week on this theme. The Wedding Season has most definitely begun and there have been a few celebrity weddings recently which have really stood out to me for the simplistic beauty which speaks volumes.

Michael Buble wed Luisana Lopilato wearing Sylvie Burstin

Reece Witherspoon wed Jim Toth in a
                Beautiful
                Soft Blush Monique Lhuillier

Kellie Pickler wed Kyle Jacobs in an
                Ivory Badgley Mischka ballgown

Nicole Richie wed Joel Madden in one of 3 Marchesa dresses

I have 2 wedding myself this year, my Dad is getting remarried in May and one of my Best Friends is finally getting married in September after a 6 year engagement so I most definitely will be taking notes on Friday as i'm doing the makeup, tan and nails for both bridal parties. I'll be doing updates closer to the day on the makeup and beauty looks that I will be doing on the wonderful brides and also an update on my outfit for the weddings, although I am bridesmaid for my friend's wedding so I really have only one dress to look for. Don't know whether that's a blessing in disguise or not as I have been driving my 2 sisters crazy looking for a dress for our Dad's wedding. Maybe a blessing for them, and well, my poor bank balance too.
Look out for the official wedding pictures of LeAnn Rimes' wedding last week to Eddie Cibrian which have yet to be released however these pap pictures have just surfaced of the day in question

LeAnn Rimes in Reem Acra with Eddie Cibrian
Other upcoming weddings to be on the lookout for are Hugh Hefner's Wedding and of course Lily Allen who's dress is to be designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. Can you imagine, wouldn't you die.

Stay tuned this week for some more Wedding Fever and of course on Friday/Saturday for the goss and the fashion for the Royal Wedding
