Trend for the week Ethereal

Ethereal to me is floaty fabric, fantasy styles and beautiful pastels. It sparks images in my head of princesses and fairies and ballerinas. Super girly and super pretty. Ethereal literally means
1. light, airy, or tenuous an ethereal world created through the poetic imagination
2. extremely delicate or refined
3. heavenly or celestial

So again this isn't necessarily a new trend for the red carpet but it played a huge part this season on the runways. With the release of Black Swan starring Natalie Portman the ballerina trend really took off. I've decided to do this trend all under the heading of Ethereal as to me it's basically the same thing. With the fashion trend of pastel makeup also adding to it.

The Wedding Dress designers in their Ready to Wear Collections definitely defined the trend and epitomised everything this trend stands for,
From Elie Saab

To Marchesa

And Jenny Packham all nailed this trend effortlessly

And Monique Lhuillier

Ethereal on the runways was versatile but everything had one thing in common, pastels, nudes, floaty fabrics, tulle and everything lovely and pretty. There were other designers who also did the trend beautifully such as Valentino Haute Couture

Giammbatista Valli

Even Max Azria gave their own unique take on this stunning trend. His print campaign is this trend in a nutshell

Even Herve Leger whose designs are usually seen on red carpets with Celebrities poured into them touched in the trend. It is a nice change to see HL a little more feminine and less overtly sexy

Other designers who touched on Ethereal as seen below, Erin Fetherston

and Anna Sui,
Anne Valerie Hash mixed the trend with her loose tailoring and menswear style outfits

Dolce and Gabbanna took all White to another level and brought it swiftly out of the 70's and into 2011 with their take on ethereal. Using lace (which will be covered a bit better through the sheer and modern metallic trend), broderie anglaise and modern cuts the designers gave this trend a new lease of life

The last few pictures I have a just various pieces I spotted through runways that fit into this trend completely but the whole show may have had a different focus

Zang Toi

Lanvin

Richie Rich

My favourite was Chloe. There is only one word for this collection in my opinion, Divine. Chloe's runway is the trend. Beautiful, soft colours and utterly feminine in everyway. Touching on the Ballerina side with the Ballerina buns and the ballerina slipper style shoes with the tulle tutu effect skirts. J'Adore

What do you think girlies? Do you like this trend? Will you rock your own unique version of the Ballerina look?
